Live the life your soul wants

Owning our truth

The mind distorts the truth and likes to mess with us. The truth is revealed within us; thus, we must discover it from our experience, not our belief.

It is interesting how people just accept something as truth without asking the question ‘Is this mine and does it resonate with me?’.

People influence people and follow other people’s truth when they are not in charge of their own life. They hand power over to others in knowing what is best for them. As children this will happen as we have not yet had enough life experience, and yet to develop our personality traits so will take on much of what is not ours.

As we grow up, we need to challenge our beliefs, so we can throw away what does not belong to us. How often do you hear people say ‘my mother always said this like it’s the gospel truth’ because they are sharing the words of others rather than knowing who their own truth.

From the time we are born we are programmed by our parents, and society to take on their beliefs, only to later realise these are not ours and rediscover who we are. Sometimes it can take years for people to offload these beliefs.

I questioned a lot as a child and did not take anything at face value. It caused a lot of conflict with my family and other authority figures, including schoolteachers. They did not like me asking questions, so I spent a lot of time being sent out of the classroom to stand outside the door. My family and schoolteachers conveniently labelled me as rebellious. My mother informed me I was not normal like other children and could not ask these questions.

I began to understand I was different to most people around me and that most people weren’t very deep, as they did not ask deeper questions about life or contemplate them. I learned quickly it wasn’t taken well to be honest or question truths. However, it did not stop me doing it. Much later in life I discover in 2021 at the age of 63 I have autism which explains my whole life and how my uniqueness works through me by being neurodiverse.
