Category: Autism and society
These articles explore how society views autistic people, and how their projections affect autistic people.
- Ableism
- It doesn’t matter how much research allistic people do and then call themselves experts, we as autistic people are the experts, so we need to encourage people to talk to us.
- Does masking really keep us safe
- It is an illusion for the most part that hiding our autistic traits keeps us safe. I was ridiculed for decades for being autistic. It turns out that was not doing me any favours.
- Mental illness and suicide
- Many autistic people have depression and anxiety. Please do not assume people are okay and dismiss it with platitudes.
- Neurodivergent abuse
- Neurodivergent abuse isn’t exclusive to neurotypicals. Everything we do is not about being autistic and not everything we do should be accepted because we are autistic. Abuse is abuse.
- Normal
- Normal is not a word that should be used to describe anyone. Normal is a one size fits all illusion that has been projected onto us so we can be managed for other people’s gain.
- Small talk
- Small talk is subjective because it is influenced by personal beliefs, and feelings rather than based on facts thus it is not based on truth or fact but rather a person’s thoughts, and feelings.
