Music that touches the heart

The factory formula sound of music

This article gives some thought on the same sound heard between artists in the same music genre.

Some music genres have started to sound like a cloned factory of the same where it follows formulas resulting in many artists all sounding the same. One example is country music which I am a fan of, but I tend to listen to those that are more unique in being true to themselves as an artist instead of conforming to what sells in Nashville.

It’s even got difficult to hear if you are listening to the same artist or someone else as it sounds and feels like they just dumped a new voice into a formula template one size fits all. It escapes me why people want their music library full of artists who sound the same as each other?

I find it is interesting how artists are willing to compromise a great deal of who they are for the potential of success.

Once an artist has become popular and has a few scores on the board you can see how they they start to exercise their authority bringing more of who they really are to their music. The successful independent artists generally haven’t had to contend with this issue having not being signed to a record label.

Record companies don’t seem to trust their artists ability to be successful without their control in deciding what and how they do their songs. Many record companies have been wrong in their decisions only to throw the artist out with the baby water painting them as the failure when it was the mistake of the record company in not letting artist write what the public responded to in the first place.

We see so much of this today where people live their life to please others for success instead of following what their true self is. In the case of music, I dare say they feel they don’t have a choice if they want the promotion and financial backing to get their music out there.
