True self

This article explores our relationship with the true self, and how this awareness helps us evolve into our best selves.

Some people find it difficult to connect with their true selves because many things can cloud their sense of who they are. This often creates confusion about what their growth actually involves. Connecting to our true essence can be seen as a doorway to understanding reality more clearly, as many things viewed through the lens of the personality are influenced by conditioning and perception. To understand our true self, we must move beyond the limitations of the mind and become more aware of our inner essence.

Many people are familiar with the idea of a personal bucket list, a collection of things they want to experience in a lifetime. While some of these goals may hold meaning, they are not always connected to a deeper sense of purpose. Our true essence guides us through lessons that support growth, which means that discovering who we are does not always lead to immediate comfort, success, or fulfilment in the way the personality expects.

Opening the heart is part of becoming aware of the true self. This awareness develops through surrender and trust in a broader consciousness. Most people are not raised with an understanding that goes beyond the personality. The true self cannot be understood through analysis alone. It is not something the intellectual mind can fully grasp, because it exists beyond the mind itself. No amount of thinking or analysing will directly connect us to inner awareness.

The true self-communicates in a way that goes beyond words. As this awareness grows, we begin to understand more about who we are and what we are capable of. This process often involves self-reflection and a willingness to re-examine beliefs as a clearer understanding unfolds. One of the challenges during this stage is how others respond to the changes they see in us. Some people may step away, while we may also choose to distance ourselves from relationships that no longer support our growth.

Modern ideas around personal development often focuses on achieving potential through goals and external success. However, true understanding comes from within rather than from external achievements. It is something that must be realised through direct experience. Placing too much emphasis on career and financial success as the main purpose of life can lead to a limited sense of identity.

When it comes to purpose, there is not just one single purpose in life. We experience different purposes at different stages, and only part of that may relate to earning a living. Our work or career is not the full expression of who we are. When this is not understood, it can lead to a loss of direction or identity later in life.

This pattern can keep people focused on constant achievement without ever feeling satisfied. It is driven by the personality, which continues to seek more without knowing when to stop. There is always another goal or milestone, which can become a way of delaying true self understanding. People may tell themselves that they will focus on who they are once they reach the next stage, but this often continues to repeat.
